Football

Football refers to a team sport played between two teams, typically of eleven players each, where the primary objective is to score goals by advancing a ball into the opposing team’s goal. The game is characterized by gameplay that predominantly involves the use of feet to control and pass the ball, although players can use any part of their body except the arms and hands—unless they are the goalkeeper. Football is known for its combination of physical skill, strategic play, and teamwork.

Globally, football is most popularly associated with association football (known as soccer in some regions), governed by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). However, the term “football” can also refer to different variations in other countries, such as American football, Canadian football, and rugby football, each having its own set of rules and gameplay styles. The definition of football can thus vary significantly based on cultural context and regional preference. The sport is one of the most widely viewed and played games worldwide, known for major tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup and various domestic leagues.
